Hurricane Sandy

Dear Gear 3 Client,

Our deepest thoughts and concerns go out to all the victims and families impacted by Hurricane Sandy. As many of our clients are finally getting back normalcy, we are having many discussions with our clients regarding business continuity and the differences between this and disaster recovery.

Were you able to access your files remotely, even if power was out in your office? Were you able to use your email or was that down due to power or Internet?

Was your power up and your internet down- would a secondary Internet connection (dual wan) configuration have helped?

Were you able to still accept phone calls or have callers leave voicemail messages? Was your on-site Phones system down too? Could you re-route calls to a working phone number?

With the numerous power surges, plenty of network and server hardware devices were destroyed. Do you have your data backed up, and is it off-site? Would replacement hardware on-site have made a difference?

While you ponder some of these business essential questions, you may discover what beneficial steps could now be taken in the event we are in the path of a disaster once again.

While talking to many of our clients during this disaster, we realized that you were unaware of the hosted services we offer; these services could have certainly helped your business during this challenging time. We discovered many of our clients could have been more prepared from a technology standpoint and wanted to share some solutions that helped them get through this challenging time.

• Hosted File and Email Servers– allowed clients to work on file and receive email

• Hosted Desktops– workstations that are in the cloud can be accessed from anywhere with an active Internet connection

• Hosted VoIP Phone Solutions– allowed callers to receive a greeting and leave a voicemail even if power was not available in their office. Also ability to have phone numbers forwarded to working locations.

Hosting these vital business assets with Gear 3 is a simple and affordable step to improving business continuity. Those clients who had these services from Gear 3 benefited immeasurably during the storm and it’s aftermath.

As many of you already know, all of our servers and network infrastructure ran perfectly throughout Hurricane Sandy.. Our data center did not even have a glitch in service, due to it being an enterprise class facility– the facility has power from three utility companies as well as a solar farm on the roof.

If you would like to discuss some of these solutions, and see if they fit your business model, feel free to contact us and we would be more than happy to discuss.

Also, if any of you and your families were severely affected by Hurricane Sandy and Gear 3 can be of assistance in any way– please let us know.

Thank you for being a Gear 3 client and best wishes moving forward.

– Gear 3 Team
