How to repair disk on OS X - fsck

Restart, hold down Command S, you will boot in shell, then type in

/sbin/fsck -fy

This will find and fix your system i.e. (HFS Plus volume, Extents Overflow file, Catalog file, multilinked files, Catalog hierarchy, volume bit map, volume information)

If modification were made, this indicates files, directories were fixed.

Type reboot to restart.
