In Microsoft Outlook Tools --> Account --> Add --> Mail The wizard will open and walk you through the process. Follow these steps:
Display name: This is the way your email address will appear in another persons mail manager when you send them an email message. For example, if you put "Joe Schmoe" in this box your mail messages will appear as from Joe Schmoe when someone receives them. The best thing to do here is to enter your name. That way the person who receives will recognize immediately who it is from. Hit Next.
Email address This is the email address of the new account you are setting up. Enter the new email address and hit next.
My incoming mail server is a.... Select POP3 (Post Office Protocol version 3). POP3 is a protocol that will allow you to periodically access a mail server and download your mail. Just like the postman periodically visits your mailbox outside. It is the most widely used protocol for receiving mail.
Incoming mail This is the Network address of the mail server you will be getting your mail from. Gear 3 configures your mail server to be your domain. i.e. mydomain.com You do not need to put anything like POP or MAIL in front of domain.
Outgoing mail This is the Network address of the mail server you will be "sending" your mail from. If Gear 3 is your ISP then we will supply you with this information. If Gear 3 is not your ISP, you should have documentation from your ISP. Hit Next.
Account Name: This is usually the beginning of your email address. Everything before the @ symbol. But in some cases, such as email alias, your user name may be different. Call Gear 3 if you get an Authentication Errror, and we will confirm your user name. Password Enter your password. Passwords are case sensitive. Make sure your enter your password correctly. Click Finish.
If you ever need to make changes to your mail account simply click Tools --> Accounts Highlight the mail account that you need to modify and click "Properties". You will be able to change all the options discussed above. |
