Squirrelmail – Deleting email messages

Delete Email Using Squirrelmail

  1. Open Squirrelmail – yourdomain.com/webmail
  2. You will see that by default, Squirrelmail does not show you the size of messages. You will need to add that column by going to Options, choosing Index Order, and adding Size.
  3. Go back to your Inbox and scroll down to search for large-sized messages. These are usually messages with attachments. As a guideline, anything over 15MB should usually be removed.
  4. Download your attachments from the largest messages and delete the messages from your account. By default, Squirrelmail saves deleted messages, so you will need to click the word Purge when it appears next to your deleted-items folder to permanently delete these messages and their attachments
  5. Click the other mail folders in the left menu and follow the same procedure

To set Squirrelmail not to save deleted messages:

  1. Click Options on the top menu
  2. Select Folder Preferences
  3. Next to Trash Folder: choose [do not use Trash]

To set Squirrelmail not to save sent mail:

  1. Click Options on the top menu
  2. Select Folder Preferences
  3. Next to Sent Folder: choose [do not use sent]
